UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 2, 2023) – It was a busy first Saturday in December along the Lakeshore, with numerous family activities held.
It all began at 9 AM with the opening of the Holland Farmers Market in the 8th Street Marketplace. The market will be operating on Saturdays only through December 16th from 9 AM to 1 PM, and will be sharing the 8th Street Marketplace with the Holland Kerstmarkt, the Christmas Market that runs Fridays from 3-8 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM-6 PM through Decmeber 16th. Inside of the nearby Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place, city of Holland staffers held a morning Farewell Open House for outgoing City Council members Nicki Arendshorst, Dave Hoekstra and Jay Peters.
At 11 AM, Saugatuck had its annual Holiday Parade stepping out from Wickes Park, while at the same time at West Michigan Regional Airport, Operation Good Cheer, run by Lansing-based Child and Family Charities, landed a plane filled with toys for families in need across the region. Throughout Saturday, Fennville held a variety of activities, including a pancake breakfast, hobby train show, a library book sale, live reindeer, a magician, and a holiday lights parade that concluded with a tree lighting ceremony and community sing. At the Felt Mansion in Laketown Township, there was Winterfest at the historic landmark, with a variety of activities centered around a visit from Santa.
The day concluded with a free evening Watch Party at DeVos Fieldhouse on the Hope College campus, as the big scoreboard was lowered to show the NCAA.com telecast of the Flying Dutch’s Division III national championship volleyball match against Juniata from southern California.
