GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 16, 2023) – A 59-year-old Coopersville man was arraigned on charges of setting his home on fire over the weekend.
On Monday, Bryan Lee Moore was formally charged with second degree arson and ordered held on $25,000 bond by Grand Haven District Court Judge Craig Bunce. Early on Sunday morning, firefighters from six departments were called to a residence in the 13000 block of 68th Avenue in Polkton Township that was fully engulfed in flames, and investigators ruled that the blaze that was initially “suspicious in nature” is believed to have been intentionlly set. The suspect had fled on foot shortly after the fire began, but was spotted by deputies a short time later and taken into custody, while there were no injuries sustained by any first responders at the scene.
The structure sustained substantial damage and is considered to be a total loss. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, members with the American Red Cross of West Michigan have made shelter arrangements with three other adults and a child that had been living at the home, although none of them were at the residence at the time of the blaze.
The case remains open, and anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
