Ruth Elaine Borr, age 87, of Holland, passed away on Saturday, October 7th at The Inn at Freedom Village.
Ruth was born in East Grand Rapids, Michigan to Leonard and Elsie VandenBerg on April 24th, 1936. She went to Baldwin St. Elementary, Grand Rapids Christian Schools and continued her education at Hope College where she earned a degree in education. She held various teaching positions at Forest Hills Schools, Kentwood Schools and finished her career as a 3rd grade teacher in the West Ottawa School district. Ruth was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing various flowers and making beautiful arrangements for family and friends. Ruth was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing at various nursing homes upon retirement. Ruth served on the Board of Directors for many years at Camp Geneva. She was proud of the fact that she was one of the first campers over 75 years ago. Ruth was a loving, compassionate and hard working person. Ruth instilled these values in her children and grandchildren. She was a friend to many and loved to write cards and notes on a regular basis. She was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church in Holland.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roger H. Borr of Holland; children, Craig (Brenda) Borr of Cadillac, MI, Carin (James) Von Ins of Holland; grandchildren, Davis Von Ins, Carly Borr, Evan Borr; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be Thursday, October 12 held at 1:00pm at Freedom Village/auditorium with Nate Schipper of Fellowship Church officiating. Refreshments and a time of visitation will be held after the service from 2:00- 4:00 p.m.
