She was born on July 4, 1944 to Rena and Henry Petroelje. Dorothy is survived by her 5 sisters,
Sharon Machiela, Barb Mervenne, Ruth Brand, Hope Vander Weide, Rebecca Feikema and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She had a great love for all of them and took a great interest in them, their families, and her extended family.
She was a faithful member and volunteer at Noordelos C.R.C. when she was younger and currently at Zion Chapel.
She graduated from Holland Christian High School in 1962. Dorothy attended Reformed Bible Institute before graduating from Calvin College in 1973. Dorothy was a beloved elementary school teacher for several years. Later she gave her time and talents to caring for others in various nursing facilities locally.
She was among the first group to participate as a volunteer with S.T.S (Summer Training Session) in Mexico.
Dorothy was a true follower of Jesus. Her love for Him was displayed through her words and actions. She had a caring spirit, which never faded. The Bible was her firm foundation for all that she believed. Even though she eventually developed many health issues, her faith and trust in Jesus remained strong. She believed in the importance of “laying up treasures in heaven” which faithfully guided her throughout her life.
Dorothy’s most recent home was at Waverly Meadows Senior Community, where she made many friends. She took a keen interest in others there and helped them in many ways as she was able. She would sometimes entertain them on the piano, which she loved and played from childhood and was also a skilled accordionist.
Dorothy was loved and will be greatly missed!
