LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A lawsuit is being filed in federal court in western Michigan against state election officials by some state legislators over two propositions that were approved by voters.
One allows voters to vote absentee in all elections while the other allows citizens to register to vote when they get a driver’s license. Senator Jonathan Lindsey (R-Allen) says a constitutional election clause requires the legislature to regulate federal elections.
An attorney for the legislators say they are suing to get a declaratory judgment to ensure that the state constitutional amendment process is not misused in the future to exclude the legislature from regulating federal elections.
