HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 20, 2023) – The investigation into the death of a 41-year-old Louisiana man at a southeast Holland construction site is no longer in the hands of the Holland Department of Public Safety.
That’s the word from Captain of Administrative Services Bob Buursma, who said in a statement on Tuesday that the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration has taken over the probe into the incident last Friday. Just before 12 Noon, first responders were dispatched to the LG Energy Solutions complex off of East 48th Street and Waverly Road, where the facility that makes lithium-ion batteries was being expanded.
According to Buursma, a plate on a pipe system being pressure tested broke free and struck the unnamed victim in the head. Although the man, who was part of the Jesco Incorporated team from Mississippi that was working on the project, was wearing a hard hat, the force of the strike caused what proved to be a mortal injury, as he lost his life a short time later at Holland Hospital.
MiOSHA normally assumes all investigative aspects of workplace incidents in the state, and officials of that state agency say that their probe into this matter could take several months.
