HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 21, 2023) – The Holland City Council held its second business meeting of the month on Wednesday evening.
Among the items on the agenda was a formal first presentation of proposed annual assessments for downtown parking, snowmelt, and the principal shopping district. City officials are looking for three percent rate increases in parking and snowmelt, and maintaining current fees for the shopping district. Public hearings and a final vote on these matters are set for the next business meeting in two weeks’ time, on October 4th.
Council also reviewed and unanimously approved the Consolidated Annual Performance Evaluation Report for the 2023 Community Development Block Grant Program, as well as unanimously approved speculative tax abatements for Lakeshore Industrial Properties to build a two-condo commercial unit off of East 48th Street east of Waverly Road. The second phase of this five million-dollar project, encompassing nearly 100,000 square feet, would be ready for occupancy by the end of January, according to Lakeshore Industrial’s Randy Price.
In addition, some amendments to the city’s Unified Development Ordinance was put forward for first reading, including allowing neighborhoods to display banners over city streets. A final vote on this matter is also set for October 4th.
