WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 19, 2023) – Two schools among the Lakeshore counties are among 11 in Michigan honored by the US Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023.
Dorr Elementary School in the Wayland Union district, as well as Robinson Elementary School in the Grand Haven Area district, were cited for overall academic performance or for progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups on assessments. A total of 353 schools were so honored nationwide this year, and the program has issued around 10,000 awards to more than 9,700 schools over the past four decades.
It’s the first such honor for these two schools, and the first for the area since Lakeshore Elementary in the West Ottawa district took its second National Blue Ribbon School award two years ago. There have been 21 such accolades among institutions in Allegan and Ottawa counties since 1982.
