BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 24, 2023) – A two-vehicle crash north of Zeeland resulted in the hospitalization of both drivers involved on Saturday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the intersection of 96th Avenue and New Holland Street around 10:20 AM. That was where an eastbound vehicle apparently drove through a stop sign and collided with a northbound vehicle which had the right of way. The force of the collision sent the vehicles into a nearby utility pole, sending power lines into the roadway.
The two drivers – a 70-year-old Holland woman in the eastbound vehicle and a 54-year-old Zeeland woman in the northbound vehicle – suffered internal injuries and were separately taken to undisclosed “Grand Rapids area” hospitals in stable condition. The junction was blocked off for a time while Consumers Energy crews arrived to replace the damaged pole and safely remove the downed lines.
The crash remains under investigation.
