Calvin Kolean, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully from his earthly home to his heavenly home, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the age of 93.
Cal was born on November 16, 1929, and was a lifelong resident of Holland, a member of Harderwyk Ministries, and served in the Korean War. Cal and his loving wife Carol celebrated 67 years of marriage together. Cal loved fishing here and at Burt Lake, spending time outdoors and gardening. He also loved to sing and was a member of the Holland Magna Chords, The Holland Chorale, Evergreen Chorale, and his church’s choir. He hosted many fish fries and cookouts in his home and screen house for family and friends. He also enjoyed family gatherings for coffee after church on Sunday mornings.
He was preceded in death by parents, numerous siblings, his son-in-law Rick Brand, and grandson-in-law Evan Barriger, and great-grandson Oliver Brand.
Cal is survived by his wife Carol, children Cathy Brand, Cheryl (Norlyn) Compaan, Jim Kolean, Rob (Heidi) Kolean; grandchildren; Matt (Elizabeth) Brand, Jon (Anne) Brand, Jake (Rachel) Compaan, Josh (Joy) Compaan, Kendra Barriger, Krista (Evan) Strom, Christopher (Natalie) Kolean, Annika Kolean; great-grandchildren Pierson and Tessa Brand, Elizabeth Compaan, Arlo Barriger; sister Laurel (Jim) Boeve, sister in law Marilyn Kolean, brother in laws, Jim Harris, Dale (Alyce) Reimink and many beloved nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 23, 2023, at Harderwyk Christian Reformed Church, 1627 W. Lakewood Blvd, Holland, MI with Pastor Mary Dewitt and Rev. Bill Lindner officiating. A private family burial will precede visitation at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 -11:00 am, Friday, June 23, 2023, also at Harderwyk Christian Reformed Church.
Memorial donations can be made to Abundant Life Christian Schools of Honduras in care of Harderwyk Ministries, or Hospice of Holland.
