GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 11, 2023) – An Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputy is on administrative leave following a shooting in which a 28-year-old man lost his life late on Saturday night.
Details are still sketchy, but according to Sheriff’s Sergeant James Douglas, deputies were dispatched to River Avenue north of Baldwin in Jenison around 10:30 PM on a report of an armed man threatening to kill other people as well as himself.
“While deputies were in contact with the subject, a deputy from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office discharged their firearm, striking the subject. Paramedic deputies from the Sheriff’s Office immediately rendered aid; however, the subject was later pronounced deceased at the scene by medical responders.” – Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant James Douglas
No other deputies or civilians were injured in the incident, and the name of the deceased man wasn’t immediately disclosed. The Michigan State Police is now investigating the matter, as is standard procedure whenever there is a shooting involving a law enforcement officer.
