HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 17, 2023) – After deciding on a budget two weeks ago and making sure the city streets were clean during the Tulip Time Kinderparade last Thursday, the Holland City Council gets back to work on Wednesday evening.
Among the items on the agenda for the biweekly meeting is a vote on a 12-year tax abatement request by Coastal Container for a proposed $6.5 million expansion of its Industrial Avenue facility over the next 18 months, which would result in the hiring of 66 new staffers.
The city also needs to amend its flood plain management plan to accommodate the Allegan County portion of the Tulip City. This federal flood insurance rate map adjustment is necessary in order for private flood insurance plans to be enacted.
The Holland BPW is seeking approval of a new water supply agreement with Laketown Township that would run for 30 years with an automatic 30-year renewal option. Township customer rates would be comparable to those paid by city customers, and the deal is similar to a renovated pact the BPW has already in place with Park Township.
Finally, council will be asked to approve bids for renovating the exterior of Holland City Hall, as well as exploring making upgrades to the Holland Museum building off of West 10th Street.
The Holland City Council meets in Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.) at 6 PM. An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
