HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2023) – The tulips are still in bloom at Window on the Waterfront, but there are barricades put up near them.
No, it’s not because there are renewed fears that deer, rabbits and other animals will be feasting on the flowers, but because a nine million-dollar project began in earnest on Monday. The spotlight of the project will be the construction of a permanent outdoor skating rink at the park, but the work will also include a complete renovation of 6th Street, including the installation of snowmelt on the roadway, from Columbia to River avenues, as well as expansions of College Avenue and East 5th Street to accommodate vehicular access to the rink, according to Holland Mayor Nathan Bocks.
The three-phase work on 6th Street is expected to run through the end of July, with a crowdfunding effort underway to complete the eight million dollars needed to build the rink.
