GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 9, 2023) – A 28-year-old Holland man will be spending up to the next 12-plus years in a federal prison.
Jason Duenas was sentenced on Monday at US District Court in Grand Rapids after pleading guilty on January 6 to a count of possession of more than five kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute. He was arrested last July at an apartment unit off of Carmella Lane in Holland, where 14 bundles of packaged cocaine, weighing in at nearly 42 pounds, were spotted inside of a washer and dryer in the building’s laundry room, as well as underneath those appliances. An addition 12 ounces of the controlled substance was inside of a safe in a bathroom closet, as well as in other areas of the unit, and more than $62,000 in cash, along with a pair of handguns, were seized.
Investigators from various law enforcement entities, including the police services unit of the Holland Department of Public Safety, brought Duenas to justice, and Ottawa County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Sarah Matwieczyk said that having the feds handle the case was no big deal to her office.
Duenas will also pay a thousand-dollar fine and serve five years of federal probation upon his release from prison.
