KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – West Michiganders are preparing to head to the polls on Tuesday, May 2nd to vote on a number of proposed millages that are new and up for renewal in several local school districts and communities.
For Allegan County is a Bond Proposal for Hamilton Community Schools in which the school district is asking for $41.18 million for improvements and remodeling to its school buildings to include improving security, installing instructional technology equipment, purchasing school buses, and improving playgrounds, driveways, and parking areas.
Also in Allegan County is the Bond Proposal for the Wayland Union School District where the district is asking for $49.7 million for improving security and remodeling school buildings to included installing instructional technology equipment and improving athletic fields and parking areas.
In Kalamazoo County, Climax-Scotts Community Schools has a Bond Proposal where the school district is asking for $16.2 million for improvements and to install technology in school buildings to include remodeling school buildings, and improving playgrounds and athletic fields and facilities.
Over in Cooper Township is a Special Assessment District Proposal that if passed, the Township Board of Trustees will host a public hearing every year to assess the millage amount for Cooper Fire Department budget and capital outlay needs for such items as truck upkeep and replacement, a possible addition to the fire station, and replacement of self-contained breathing apparatus and other tools.
Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) has an Enhancement Millage Renewal Proposal asking for a renewal of 1.5 mill which they say will allow the intermediate school district to continue to levy regional enhancement millage that expired with the 2022 levy.
In St. Joseph County, the Bond Proposal for Centreville Public Schools is asking for $17.14 million for security upgrades among other improvements to include remodeling the elementary school and junior/senior high school, purchasing school buses, and improving the athletic stadium.
And for Constantine Public Schools, their Bond Proposal there is asking for a $3.9 million to remodel school buildings.
