LEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a vehicle crash with a train that killed a Pullman resident Wednesday morning.
Authorities say it happened around 9:25 a.m. near the intersection of 108th Avenue and 56th Street in Lee Township.
Deputies responded to the crash after Allegan Central Dispatch received a crash notification from a vehicle with no response from the driver. Witnesses on scene said they saw that the 54-year-old female driver had been ejected from her vehicle after it was struck by a southbound train at the railroad crossing at 108th Avenue and 56th Street.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was heading east on 108th Avenue when it was hit by the train.
According to witnesses, the vehicle did not come to a complete stop and proceeded through the intersection. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
So far, deputies say that both alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash which remains under investigation.
108th Avenue between 58th Street and 56nd Street in Lee Township were closed for several hours during the investigation.
The Allegan Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Lee Township Fire Department, LIFE EMS, CSX Transportation, and Allegan Central Dispatch.
