WYOMING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 12, 2023) – In the category of one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, the Wyoming City Council will interview a former Ottawa County Administrator as one of four candidates for the vacant city manager’s post.
John Shay had been Ludington’s city manager before becoming Al Vanderberg’s top deputy in 2018. He took over nearly two years ago when Vanderberg left for Kent County, and was immediately replaced by John Gibbs when the Ottawa Impact-led county board assumed its duties this past January 3rd.
Shay, along with Plainfield Twp. Assistant Manager Jen DeHaan, current Wyoming Interim City Manager John McCarter, and Norton Shores City Administrator Mark Meyers, emerged from 48 candidates who submitted applications for the operational lead in the Grand Rapids suburb. DeHaan and McCarter face city council on Thursday evening, while Shay and Meyers meet the panel on Saturday morning. A final decision could come during council’s scheduled meeting next Monday evening.
Curtis Holt retired as Wyoming’s city manager in February after 27 years as an employee with that municipality.
