ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 14, 2023) โ Another chapter in the ongoing daytime drama at the Fillmore Street Complex in West Olive may be unfolding.
On Monday, first-term Ottawa County Commissioner Jacob Bonnema publicly renounced his involvement with the Ottawa Impact Political Action Committee. The Zeeland Republican, who replaced long-time Commissioner Al Dannenberg on the panel last November, said that โsome of the PACโs leaders, who now lead the County Commission, have not acted in strict accordance with some of these values,โ citing government transparency and accountability, and respect of parental rights. Ottawa Impact co-founders Joe Moss and Sylvia Rhodea are the current board chairman and vice chair, respectively.
Bonnema was among eight newcomers, along with incumbent Kyle Terpstra, who were endorsed by the PAC and won election to the county board last fall. Terpstra told the Holland Sentinel last month that he was severing ties with Ottawa Impact, and both he and fellow commissioner Rebekah Curran, who has also left the PAC, say that while they were endorsed by Ottawa Impact, they did not receive any financial campaign support from that group.
There has been no official response from Ottawa Impact on these actions by Bonnema, Terpstra and Curran.
