LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The state’s Amber Alert system has turned 20 years old, and officials say that, while fewer alerts are being issued, the system continues to be improved and upgraded.
Michigan’s first Amber Alert was triggered by the disappearance of a Cass County girl, who was found safe later in California.
In 2022, only two Alerts were issued…neither reached the general public, as each child was found safe before the public alert could be sent out.
The Amber Alert system came about after the 1996 disappearance of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman in Texas.
