PARIS (Reuters) – Traffic on the French part of Rhine river came to a standstill on Wednesday due to strikes against the government’s planned pension law, a representative for the CGT union and Germany’s Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSA) said.
Workers have also caused disruptions at the river locks at Strasbourg and at Marckolseim, the CGT representative said.
WSA said this also affects traffic to German ports such as Breisach or Weil am Rhein as well as Basel, Switzerland.
“The whole international Rhine navigation is practically interrupted on this section due to these strikes,” it said.
