KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The FBI Detroit office along with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and the Portage Department of Public Safety is requesting the public’s help in locating Heather Kelley, a mother of eight who was last seen on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
According to investigators, detectives found Kelley’s burned-out vehicle the following day abandoned near East Michigan Avenue and North Sprinkle Road.
In speaking with the media a few days later, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller said that her car had been set on fire, and her blood, hair and other signs of violence were found inside.
Kelley’s boyfriend, who was identified as a person of interest in the case is expected to remain in custody with the Federal Bureau of Prisons until at least April 26, 2023, according to a January 11 reply from Judge Robert Jonker.
Court documents showed that he had left his probation home without permission on the day of Kelley’s disappearance.
He had been convicted of federal conspiracy to distribute and deal cocaine, and possession of a firearm in 2011, according to the indictment.
He was also indicted for murder-to-hire, but that charge was later dropped, and was sentenced to 13 years in federal prison.
