Verlie DeGroff (Woolf) passed away peacefully at the age of 81, on Monday, January 23, 2023, in Holland, Michigan.
Verlie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ivan Woolf; and her son, George De Groff.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, George Sr., and her two daughters: Melissa Vander Kooi (Marc) and Tammie Wiersema (John). Verlie is also survived by her son’s widow, Linda DeGroff; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and her remaining sibling, Adeline Reed.
Verlie lived a simple and honorable life. She worked at and retired from Hope College, where she worked as a custodian for 13 years. She lived life to the fullest with simple pleasures, such as spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, and visiting with friends. She will be remembered for her quick wit, bold personality, willfulness demeanor, colorful fashion, and red lipstick that she liked to wear all the time. In her final years, she found great joy sitting on her grandson’s porch watching the ducks and geese around their pond.
Verlie’s visitation, funeral service, and reception will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery following the reception.
