Obituary for Jerome J. Bush
Jerome was born on June 27th, 1930, in East Saugatuck, MI. He graduated from Holland High School in 1947 and spent several years in the U.S. Army, enlisting soon after graduation and re-enlisting to serve in the Korean War, during which he was stationed in Japan and Korea.
On his return, he received his degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State and worked for General Motors and later Sealed Power of Muskegon, serving as chief engineer. He retired in 1985 to a busy post-career life, serving Fillmore Township as supervisor and planning commission leader for 22 years; and going on many air trips around North America in his Cessna 172 with family and friends.
He met his loving wife Gerri Broekhuizen in 1959, and they married in 1963, going on to have three children and six grandchildren. Jerome enjoyed his many mechanical hobbies, specifically cars, airplanes, and antique tractors. He was a dedicated Christian, active in the church life of East Saugatuck CRC and later Central Avenue CRC.
He is survived by his wife Gerri; three children (and grandchildren): Janna & Brad Rudich (Andrew & wife Zoe), Jim & Dawn Bush (Jacob & Tyler), and John & Rachel Bush (Sara, Rens & Ruth); his brother: Verne & Yvonne Bush; and sisters-in-law Ann Geenen, Henne Smeenge, and Vickie Broekhuizen. Preceding him in death were his sisters Carolyn (Dave Vander Haar) and Shirley (Bernie Greving).
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2023, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in East Saugatuck Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to World Renew and Holland Christian Schools.
