HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 8, 2022) – A 60-year-old Holland man remains in custody following a reported Tuesday morning armed robbery at a bakery just east of the Tulip City.
On Thursday, Michael Ross was arraigned in Holland District Court on armed robbery, felony firearm and fourth offense habitual offender charges and was denied bond by Judge Juanita Bocanegra. No preliminary hearing date was initially disclosed.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, deputies were dispatched around 8:15 AM to Ryke’s Bakery off of Chicago Drive. They found that the business had been held up at gunpoint, and the suspect drove off with an undisclosed amount of cash. The 25-year-old woman who was manning the establishment had been shaken by the incident but not harmed, and was able to give detectives a description of the suspect, along with saying that he had driven off in a silver sedan.
Investigation led deputies to the residence of the suspect in the city of Holland around 3 PM, and Ross was taken into custody without incident. It is not believed that there was anyone else involved in the matter, and Sparks said that, “there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
The case remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
