INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State University is celebrating its first big upset of the men’s college basketball season.
The 25th-ranked Spartans knocked off fourth-ranked Kentucky 86-77 in double-overtime in the State Farms Champions Classic in Indianapolis Tuesday.
Joey Hauser scored 23 points to lead the Spartans while Malik Hall added 20 points. Hauser and Mady Sissoko both had eight rebounds.
Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe dominated the game, scoring 22 points and grabbing 18 rebounds before he fouled out. MSU was in control after that.
The 2-1 Spartans return home to host Villanova Friday.
The University of Michigan is back on the hardwood tonight facing Pittsburgh as part of the Legends Classic in Brooklyn. The 21st-ranked Wolverines are 2-and-0 on the season after wins over Purdue Fort Wayne and Eastern Michigan.
