ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 7, 2022) – A suspect has been arraigned on felony counts stemming from a shooting incident in southern Allegan County last Friday afternoon.
On Monday, 38-year-old James Edward Rawson of Lee Township was formally charged in Allegan District Court with first degree murder, assault with intent to commit murder, and two counts of felony firearm use. He remains held without bond in the Allegan County Jail.
According to Sheriff’s Lieutenant Mike Brown, deputies were dispatched to an undisclosed intersection in Lee Township around 4:30 PM last Friday on a report that a woman had just been shot in the head by her ex-husband. The unnamed victim was alert when first responders arrived, and it was determined that she had been shot at several times at a nearby residence, and that she was able to get away in her vehicle to call 911.
At that residence, a 21-year-old man reportedly identified as Samuel Williams was found lying in the driveway, and he had already passed away from apparent gunshot wounds. Rawson was apprehended at the scene, and two children apparently involved in a custody battle were reportedly found safe by authorities in a nearby wooded area.
The incident remains under investigation.
