GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The DTE Energy Foundation has announced that $420,000 in grants will go to 45 state-funded domestic violence shelters in Michigan.
The money will be used to support victims of domestic violence in Michigan. Support will be based on bed count and go to critical expenses at each location.
Funding also will be used to offer holistic survivor-centric services that include housing, transportation, employment and support for survivors who need assistance with health care needs or are struggling to navigate the criminal justice system.
President of the DTE Foundation Lynette Dowler said, “The tragic consequences of domestic violence are present in every county of our state and every aspect of our daily life. The DTE Foundation remains committed to supporting these shelters that provide a safe haven to individuals forced to flee abusive relationships or settings. These agencies are a lifeline for victims and their families.”
Locations in West Michigan to receive a portion of the grants include S.A.F.E. Place in Battle Creek, Children and Family Services of Southwestern Michigan/Safe Shelter, Inc. in Benton Harbor, Branch County Coalition Against Domestic Violence in Coldwater, YWCA of West Central Michigan in Grand Rapids, Resilience in Holland, YWCA of Kalamazoo in Kalamazoo, Every Woman’s Place in Muskegon, and Domestic and Sexual Abuse Services in Three Rivers.
