OXFORD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The suspect in the Oxford High School shooting pleaded guilty on all charges in court on Monday, October 24.
16-year-old Ethan Crumbley was charged with four counts of first-degree murder, one count of terrorism causing death, seven counts of assault with intent to murder and 12 counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
This comes nearly a year after the attack at the High School in southeastern Michigan.
The teenager withdrew his intent to pursue an insanity defense, and repeatedly acknowledged under questioning by the Oakland County Circuit Court Judge that he understood the potential penalties.
According to the prosecutors office, no deals were made ahead of Monday’s plea.
As a first-degree murder conviction typically brings an automatic life sentence in Michigan, authorities say teenagers are entitled to a hearing where their lawyer can argue for a shorter term and an opportunity for parole. They went onto say Crumbley may be called on to testify against his parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley who’ve been jailed on manslaughter charges for their alleged role in the tragedy.
