She was born on November 15, 1952, in Flint, MI, the first of Lloyd & Kathryn’s four children. To say that Susan was a free spirit would be a vast understatement. She marched to the beat of her own drum, which we imagine to be a constant loop of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing. Susan never did stop believing, even when faced with some of life’s greatest challenges, she still managed to keep going with a smile, sparkling sense of humor, and unrivaled positivity. Ever the eternal optimist her joy was gained from the happiness of those she loved, and even that of complete strangers. She appreciated the little things, often stopping to comment on the beauty of a patch of flowers (or weeds), or how happy it made her sit out on her deck watching her beloved birds eating from their feeder or a bunny stretched out in the grass. Above all else, seeing her children happy was what brought her the most joy. Being a mom was her calling, and she loved her children beyond measure, inspiring them through her strength & perseverance all while consistently showing them compassion, love, and understanding.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland. Casual attire encouraged as Susan wanted everyone to be comfortable “I want a celebration of life, not a stuffy funeral.” Memorial contributions may be given to the Good Samaritan Ministries or the Center for Women in Transition.
She shined brighter than any star and may we forever bask in her light.
