KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man accused of setting fire to a Planned Parenthood clinic in Kalamazoo is now facing a second federal charge after already being charged with arson.
25-year-old Joshua Brereton of Paw Paw, is now charged with damaging property providing reproductive health services, according to a grand jury indictment filed in federal court on Tuesday, August 30.
The Fire happened on Sunday, July 31, at the Planned Parenthood on West Michigan Avenue near South Drake Road. Investigators say the arsonist used fuel to set fire to bushes alongside the building and threw a lit fireplace starter log onto the roof. No one was inside at the time and no one was hurt, though the outside of the building sustained some damage.
According to court documents, police released a surveillance photo of the suspect on Monday, August 1.
A tipster then pointed investigators toward Brereton, who was arrested two days later on Wednesday, August 3.
Authorities said that he had previously called abortion “genocide” in a YouTube video.
