ALLENDALE TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 27, 2022) – Three days before the start of classes at Grand Valley State University, a shooting was reported at an off-campus housing complex just west of the main Allendale campus on Saturday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Smoes, deputies and GVSU police were dispatched to the Canvas Apartments off of 48th Avenue around 2:15 AM on a report of several shots being fired. Officers heard gunfire as they arrived, but couldn’t determine where the noise was coming from.
Witnesses told police that several persons had fled the area upon the arrival of law enforcement, while there were no persons injured in the incident, but one building was damaged by what Smoes called “a projectile.”
No suspects were immediately apprehended as a search and investigation continues. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department (616-738-4000) or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT).
