CLEVELAND, OH (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers split a doubleheader with the Guardians in Cleveland Monday.
Detroit fell 4-1 in the first game as Andres Gimenez cracked a three-run homer in the seventh inning to give Cleveland the lead. The Tigers stormed back with a 7-5 win in the second contest.
Will Vest took the loss in game one. Bryan Garcia earned the win in game two.
Jonathan Schoop and Kerry Carpenter homered for Detroit. Tucker Barnhart and Victor Reyes drove in two runs for the Tigers in the eighth inning to secure the win.
The Tigers are 44-and-74.
Cleveland remains two games ahead of Minnesota and Chicago for first place in the American League Central.
The Tigers and Guardians continue their four game series tonight in Cleveland.
