HARTFORD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — City officials confirmed Friday that Hartford Police Chief Tressa Beltran has been placed on-paid administrative leave following a seizure of prescription pills from the city’s police department.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, both state and county investigators seized drugs from the Hartford Police Department Thursday, June 30, around 11:30 a.m. while executing a search warrant.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit seized around 50 pills and several electronic devices, to include a cell phone.
Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jim Charon says that so far, no arrests have been made in connection to the investigation.
Detectives are investigating how Beltran allegedly obtained the drugs and how they were stored at the department that has nine employees on staff, to include six officers.
Authorities say the nature of criminal charges will be determined when the investigation is completed, and submitted to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office.
Chief Beltran became Hartford’s chief in 2016 and was hired by the department as an officer in 1989.
