ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – No injuries were reported following a massive fire that destroyed three buildings on Friday at Graber Industries on Fairchild Road between Centreville and Constantine.
The fire broke out at around 10:00 a.m. and smoke could be seen for miles.
St. Joseph County Central Dispatch sent out an all-call alert for all available tankers to assist with the fire.
A second all-call alert was sent out later in the afternoon for any available manpower to respond to the scene to help relieve fire fighters who had spent multiple hours fighting the fire in the heat.
The Bronson Fire Department was called in to cover the Colon Fire Department station in the event of a call.
Nearly a dozen fire departments responded to the scene of the blaze.
Centreville Assistant Fire Chief Hunter Miracle told WSBT-TV in South Bend that the fire started in one barn that was full of lumber and quickly engulfed the other two.
The business, which has been selling RV materials since the 1950’s, will be closed until further notice.
But it was stated on Graber’s Facebook page that they plan to reopen as they still have three buildings.
There is no official cause yet but there was some speculation the fire may have started due to electrical issues from squirrels or some other animal chewing on wires.
