LANSING, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and 18 other attorneys general are launching a coalition to support a proposal from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The SEC wants to require U.S. companies to provide information on how much financial risk they have due to climate change. They say the requirement will ensure investors receive specific information about those risks.
But Michigan Congressman Bill Huizinga says such a requirement would put pressure on suppliers, including farmers.
Nessel says the proposal would help to counter companies’ false claims that they have environmentally sustainable policies.
