ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Detectives with the Michigan State Police Fifth District Special Investigations Section have released their findings in the June 16th Allegan County officer involved shooting that left a 22-year-old man dead.
In a news released dated Thursday, June 23, the investigation revealed that Joseph Nagle had been stopped for suspicion of impaired driving.
In the release, detectives stated that that Nagle displayed indicators of impairment during sobriety tests.
When the Allegan County deputy advised him that he was under arrest, Nagle immediately began fighting with the deputy. The deputy then fired a single gunshot during the altercation which hit Nagle in the chest area.
The release stated also that the patrol vehicle was not equipped with a dashcam, and the deputy was not wearing a bodycam.
MSP is not releasing the deputy’s name at this time in order to protect the integrity of the investigation as detectives continue to seek information and evidence in order to submit their report to the Allegan County prosecutor’s office.
