WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO AM/FM) — U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, Monday, June 6, released the following statement after Pfizer announced that it will add 250 jobs to its facility in Portage, MI.
“After producing nearly one billion doses of an effective COVID-19 vaccine right here in southwest Michigan, Pfizer will continue to grow by adding 250 new jobs to boost production of its antiviral COVID-19 pill Paxlovid at its plant in Portage. This news is welcomed for two reasons: first, economic growth is absolutely essential as we continue to recover. The ripple effects of 250 new jobs means new neighborhoods, parks, and schools in the near future. Second, increasing production of Paxlovid, brings us one step closer to help contain the impacts of COVID-19. Hospitals and the brave folks who staff them will feel relief as this treatment will keep hospital beds available that would have been used for severe cases of COVID-19 and will help keep the general population healthy. Thank you to the hardworking men and women at the Portage plant for their invaluable contribution to this historic effort.”
