DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins each won a game in their doubleheader at Comerica Park Tuesday.
In the first game, Gary Sanchez went deep and Max Kepler drove in three runs as the Twins won 8-2. Devin Smeltzer earned his second win after giving up just two runs in six-and-two-thirds innings.
The Tigers pitching fared much better in game two, as the staff allowed just three hits in a 4-0 victory. Wily Peralta earned his second win after tossing two scoreless innings out of the pen.
Tigers pitcher Joey Wentz was forced to exit his second career start with a left shoulder strain. The southpaw had allowed just one hit through four innings before leaving.
Jonathan Schoop drove in all four of Detroit’s runs. The Tigers have won three of their last four.
Cole Sands got the loss for Minnesota after allowing four runs in four innings. The Twins have dropped two of three.
The series continues tonight, with the opening pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
