ROBINSON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 30, 2022) – This Memorial Day holiday weekend apparently couldn’t pass in Ottawa County without motorists ending up the weekend on hospital beds.
Such was the case on Sunday evening, as according to County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Koster, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the junction of Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) and 104th Avenue west of Allendale just before 10 PM. That was where a southbound vehicle “failed to yield” to a westbound vehicle, causing a collision.
The first motorist, a 25-year-old woman from Centreville, Virginia, had to be extricated from her vehicle by rescuers, and she and her 30-year-old male passenger from Falls Church, Virginia were taken to Mercy Hospital. The other driver, a 39-year-old West Olive man, along with two of his three passengers, a 41-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman, also from West Olive, were taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital. A 16-year-old West Olive boy in the second vehicle was not hurt.
Koster said that all of the hospitalized motorists were initially listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, and that the roadway was blocked for an hour as a result of the crash, which remains under investigation.
