KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo County woman is on her way to prison after being sentenced for identity theft.
Christina Marie Elder was sentenced to two to three-and-a-half years in prison last week in U.S. District Court, Western District of Michigan.
Elder was accused of stealing outgoing mail from mailboxes, with some of it containing checks. According to court documents, she would change the name of the payee and amount on the check and then attempt to deposit it.
Elder pleaded guilty on January 11th to one count of aggravated identity theft and one count of financial institution fraud.
Ten other felony charges were dismissed as part of her plea agreement. Those charges are one count of possession of stolen mail, five counts of financial institution fraud and four counts of aggravated identity theft.
