For a league-record 38th time, Hope College has claimed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Commissioner’s Cup all-sports trophy after finishing the 2021-22 academic year with 155 points.
The MIAA Commissioner’s Cup is based on the cumulative performance of each member school in 18 of the league’s sports for men and women. Hope has earned 22 more MIAA Commissioner’s Cups than any other member school.
Hope swept the all-sport championship titles with the women’s teams totaling 78.5 points and the men’s teams earning 76.5 points. In all, Hope won a school-record 12 MIAA regular-season championships in team sports.
On the women’s side, Hope collected outright league titles in cross country, golf, volleyball, swimming and diving, tennis and outdoor track and field, while sharing the MIAA crown in women’s basketball. The Flying Dutch also placed runner-up in indoor track and field and softball, and tied for second in soccer and lacrosse.
On the men’s side, Hope won outright league championships in basketball, swimming and diving, baseball and lacrosse, while sharing the MIAA title in football. The Flying Dutchmen also finished runner-up in cross country, golf, tennis, outdoor track and field, third in soccer, and fifth in indoor track and field.
Hope last claimed the MIAA Commissioner’s Cup during the 2018-19 academic year. No Commissioner’s Cups were awarded in 2019-20 and 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Men’s Lacrosse’s Jack Radzville Earns Spot on CoSIDA Academic All-District® At-Large Team
Hope College men’s lacrosse attacker Jack Radzville has been voted to the 2021-22 College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® At-Large Men’s Team in District 6. The Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. Radzville (Howell, Michigan / Howell HS) is among 12 honorees in District 6, which features schools in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-June.
On the field, Radzville was named MIAA Offensive MVP for the first time this spring after leading the Flying Dutchmen to a 6-0 league record and an outright MIAA championship. It was Radzville’s third All-MIAA selection and second as a first-teamer. Radzville finished second on Hope in goal scoring this spring with 55, including a league-leading 28 goals in MIAA games. With 35 assists, Radzville tied for the team lead with 90 points.
This month, Radzville graduated from Hope after majoring in electrical engineering. Last month, Radzville was selected as Hope’s Be Strong. Be True. Male Athlete of the Year. Radzville has made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll as a junior, sophomore and freshman.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Women’s Golfer Grace VanDellen Voted to CoSIDA Academic All-District® At-Large Team
Hope College women’s golfer Grace VanDellen has been chosen to the 2021-22 College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® At-Large Women’s Team in District 6. VanDellen (Oxford, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest HS) claimed MIAA season medalist and Most Valuable Golfer honors last fall after helping the Flying Dutch claim the regular-season championship.
The junior mechanical engineering major averaged a career-best 78.17 strokes over six 18-hole rounds of league play. Five of the rounds were between 74 and 78 strokes. In the classroom, VanDellen has made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore and a freshman.
