GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 24, 2022) – A 51-year-old Jenison man finished the weekend in the Ottawa County Jail after a pair of single-vehicle crashes north of Hudsonville in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the area of Rosewood Street and 28th Avenue around 5:30 AM. That was where the unnamed motorist, driving westbound, struck one power pole on Rosewood, and then turned left onto 28th Street, where he struck another power pole. Deputies located the damaged vehicle on Balsam Street near Oak in Hudsonville and took the uninjured motorist into custody.
The aftermath of the pair of crashes caused both power poles to fall, with lines blocking the roadway in each situation. It took several hours for utility crews to replace the damaged poles and to clear up the roadway. There was a brief power outage for residents in the affected area.
The suspect awaits arraignment in Hudsonville District Court on charges of hit-and-run and of operating a vehicle under the influence. The case remains under investigation.
