KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is reporting that a human trafficking investigation has resulted in three people being arrested, including a Western Michigan University public safety officer.
According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation, which happened on Wednesday, April 13, led to the arrest of multiple people for accosting a minor for immoral purposes.
Among the arrests were a 49-year-old Portage man who worked as a police officer at WMU, a 27-year-old from Mattawan employed with the Bronson Healthcare System along with a 26-year-old truck driver, also from Mattawan.
In a Friday press conference, Sheriff Fuller addressed the investigation. He said that Michigan was among the top ten states for human trafficking.
Fuller also issuing a warning to those involved in human trafficking who have yet to get caught.
Sheriff Fuller said that the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office for the investigation.
Arrested were 49-year-old Abraham Hohnke of Portage who worked as a police officer at WMU: Charged with a 4-year Felony for accosting a child for immoral purposes and using a computer on the internet to commit a crime, also a 4-year Felony.
27-year-old Aaron Bower-Guimond of Mattawan who works for Bronson Healthcare: Charged with a 4-year Felony for accosting a child for immoral purposes.
26-year-old Nathan Ruzick of Mattawan, employed as a truck driver: Charged with a 4-year Felony for accosting a child for immoral purposes.
