WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 1, 2022) – The efforts by the Ukrainians in attempt to fend off the Russian invasion of their country over the past week has drawn the admiration from many worldwide.
Ukrainian President Zelensky received a standing ovation from the European Parliment as he delivered a message of determination on Tuesday via a video link, while his predecessor, Petro Poroshenko, said that his country is protecting freedom and democracy. Congressman Fred Upton of St. Joseph and other members of the Ukraine caucus in the US House met on Monday with the Ukrainian ambassador to the US. “They need help,” he said on “WHTC Morning News” during his weekly appearance on Tuesday. “They need more sanctions as they continue, and the Russians may be able to win, perhaps in the next few days, the capital of Kyiv, but I don’t think that they are necessarily going to win over the long haul, over the next number of years, for that resiliance is really strong among the Ukrainian people.”
Fellow Republican Tony Gonzales had visited the region just prior to the Russian invasion and said that NATO needs to put in place a no-fly zone in western Ukraine as a way to provide sanctuary to residents there.
