WASHINGTON DC (WKZO AM/FM) – US Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced Thursday the single largest investment in the Great Lakes.
The $1.1 billion investment in the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative comes from the federal Infrastructure and Jobs Act, and will “accelerate the cleanup and restoration by 2030 of nine high-priority areas in Michigan whose lakes, rivers and watersheds flow into our Great Lakes”.
The funding announcement also stated that the new investment will be in addition to the yearly funding of Great Lakes restoration through Congress, and will target nine high-priority areas in the state.
The areas include Muskegon Lake in West Michigan and Torch Lake in the northwest part of the state.
