LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The State Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, has announced that it has awarded over $1.1 million in grants for a total of 17 projects that involve coastal management grants.
Three are being issued to West Michigan organizations, with a four awarded to Western Michigan University’s campus at Big Rapids.
The Allegan County Road Commission is set to receive $45,000 for a feasibility study in connection with a project involving Lakeshore Drive, the West Michigan Action Council in Grand Rapids will get over $16,000 to develop educational materials and hold panels and workshops regarding water quality, and the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council in Holland will get over $42,000 to help update the Macatawa Watershed Management Plan.
WMU in Big Rapids was awarded almost $22,000 to investigate the willingness of coastal residents to accept managed retreat strategies.
