LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 8, 2022) – A Hopkins middle school teacher has won an honor from the Michigan Lottery.
In a Tuesday announcement, Katherine Dana earned an Excellence in Education award from the Lottery for her efforts to keep her students engaged and enthused in a welcoming atmosphere. She was nominated by a former student who cited those qualities, and a panel that recognizes excellence in various criteria agreed.
She wins a plaque, a $1,500 cash prize, and a $500 grant to her classroom, school or school district. She will also be eligible for the Lottery’s Educator of the Year award that comes with a $10,000 cash prize.
Dana has spent her entire instructional career at Hopkins Middle School after earning two bachelor’s degrees from Grand Valley State University.
