LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to drop in Michigan. According to state health officials, the number of daily cases has dropped from more than 17,000 to less than 9,500, marking a decrease of almost 50 percent.
Officials are also reporting that the numbers of Michiganders hospitalized with the virus has also dropped from a high of almost 5,000 in mid January to about 3,100.
Despite the downward trend of cases, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is renewing its call to Michiganders to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
State health officials are urging Michiganders to complete the first two shots in the series of vaccinations and get their booster dose once they are eligible.
According to an MDHH press release dated February 3, unvaccinated Michiganders accounted for 77.6% of COVID cases, 85% of hospitalizations and 83% of deaths from January 15, 2021 to January 14, 2022.
