HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 24, 2022) โ One of three persons arrested following a Saturday night altercation outside of a restaurant on Hollandโs North Side late on Saturday night, which led to a 33-year-old Fennville man being hospitalized, has been arraigned.
On Monday, 25-year-old David Zavala of Holland was ordered held in the Ottawa County Jail on $25,000 bond by District Court Judge Brad Knoll on charges of carrying a concealed weapon. He had been one of three persons who attempted to flee the Brannโs Steakhouse off of James Street following the altercation at that restaurantโs parking lot.
According to Ottawa County Sheriffโs Sergeant Brad Bennett, deputies and first responders were dispatched to the Brannโs Steakhouse location off of James Street shortly after 12 Midnight on a report of a shooting. โWitnesses told Central Dispatch that there were a number of people fighting in the parking lot and that a gunshot was heard,โ Bennett said in a department statement. โThose witnesses also stated that there was a man who was unresponsive on the ground in the parking lot. Responding deputies were able to determine that the man was not shot, but had sustained serious injuries from a fight.
โAs deputies arrived on the scene, they spotted a black SUV leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Deputies were able to stop that vehicle near 120th Avenue and Felch Street after a short pursuit, and three persons inside were detained and interviewed by detectives.โ
Later on Sunday, Sheriffโs Detective Captain Jake Sparks issued a department update: โThe victim was identified as a 33-year-old Fennville man who suffered injuries to his face and head as a result of the assault. He was treated and released from (an unnamed) hospital. Nobody was struck by gunfire.โ
A Holland Department of Public Safety officer, who had been assisting sheriffโs deputies at the scene, sustained what Sparks called minor injuries.
Two other unnamed persons in that SUV โ a 24-year-old Holland man and a 24-year-old Holland woman โ are still awaiting arraignment on various charges, but both have posted bond and are not being held at this time.
The matter remains under investigation, with more charges possible, and those who may have information on the matter is asked to please contact the Sheriffโs Department (616-738-4000) or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT).
