Maria “Tomasa” Victor, age 87, of Holland, Passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022, at Medilodge Nursing Home.
Maria was the daughter of one of the first Hispanic families to settle in the Holland area. She graduated from Holland High School and went on to raise a family and work as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell. She was a long-term volunteer for Women in Transition in Holland. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by her family and the residents and staff at Resthaven Maplewoods and Medilodge.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Ynes and Beatrice Gonzales, brothers Frank and Ned Gonzales, and son James Victor.
Lovingly known as Mom, Granny, and GG (great granny), she is survived by her children John (Leslie) Victor, Julie Batey; grandchildren Heather (Josh) Graham, Cody Batey, Jacob (Arianna) Victor, Jeff (Alexandra) Victor, Jared (Shelby) Victor, Jacob Tibaldi and Patrick Victor: nine great-grandchildren; siblings Ennis Gonzales, Corina (Dale) Compagner, Mary Jane (Robert) Raak, Louis (Brenda) Gonzales, Art (Linda) Gonzales, Eva Gonzales, lots of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service honoring Maria will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland. A time of visitation will be held prior from 11:00 am -12:30 pm. Memorial contributions can be made to ‘Resilience, Advocates for Ending Violence’ at www.resiliencemi.org .
